One of my absolute favorite models of the 1970s, this chunky Baylor refuses to be ignored! Baylor was the Zales Jewelers house brand. These watches were made by a number of Swiss companies including Heuer, Girard-Perregaux, and Lemania. In fact, many Baylor watches were actually rebranded Heuer models, utilizing the same cases, dials, and movements. This Baylor has a solid stainless steel case (38.2mm excluding the signed crown) that is in very good condition, with only minor age wear. It's difficult to tell from the photos but the bezel is matte black surrounded by lightly polished stainless steel. The signed bracelet carries on this motif, with each link's beveled edge a matching matte black. It's a subtle colorway, something exceedingly rare for the era!
The deep blue dial has some light age wear but it's hardly notable on the wrist. The silver Baylor applique signature looks great, as do the diamond-centered Dauphine hands. The day and date are easily quickset by pulling the crown out to the first position. All of this is well-preserved beneath the newly installed G-S acrylic crystal.
The signed crown is recessed into the case, keeping it safe from damage and snags. It has plenty of grip and it winds and sets easily. Inside, the ETA 2780 automatic movement keeps time accurately, as you'd expect. The rotor quietly winds the watch while you wear it, though hand winding is both safe and encouraged. The bracelet is easily adjustable to fit a variety of wrist sizes.
