Yes, this watch really is one hundred years old! The beautifully engraved 14k bezel is in mint condition, with perfectly uniform plating. The dial is amazingly well preserved beneath the original mineral glass crystal, the "exploding" Gothic indices are quite easy to read from a distance. The black jeweled mushroom crown has ample grip and it winds and sets easily. There is an elegant engraving on the caseback, which snaps tightly to the case, as it should.
The case is heavily coated with 14k gold, which allowed for deeper and more intricate engraving. It also makes it quite a bit more valuable than average RGP cases! Inside the Gruen 835 movement is keeping time with great accuracy. There are numerous case marks inside the caseback, indicating the watch has been very regularly serviced over the years. The Gruen 835 movement is based on the Rolex 200, which was first released in 1924. This is how we know the watch is one century old. It truly looks like it was worn once a year, it's in such fine condition!
The black cord bracelet is also in very good condition for its age. The deployant clasp is adjustable, allowing for a comfortable, secure fit. Fully extended, it measures approximately five inches. Your jeweler should be able to add links to fit your wrist, if needed. I don't believe I've ever seen an early 20's watch in such fine condition before. With its 14k case, pristine dial, charismatic numerals, and a Rolex 200 movement, this incredibly unique watch will make the perfect evening accessory!
